Cultus Bay Gardens is a Whidbey Island, Washington-based gathering space, offering classes on floral arranging, wild plant gathering, herbalism, basketry, cooking, plant pigments, natural dyeing, shibori, bojagi, broom-making, and more. We host year-round workshops and classes and two seasonal craft markets featuring Pacific Northwest artisans. Classes welcome beginners and experienced crafters alike—and generally include homemade pie, baked in our kitchen. We draw primarily on local teachers, but also host special guests from further afield.

Our summer and winter markets bring together artists, bakers, and crafters to showcase and share their wares. The summer market, held in July, highlights crafts such as textiles, pottery, handcrafted soaps and body products, jewelry, as well as items geared toward the garden and plant enthusiast. The winter market, in late November and early December, offers a wide selection of locally made handcrafts and island-made delicacies, as well as holiday décor for your home.

Mary Fisher established the garden around her home in Clinton, South Whidbey in the 1980s, bringing her training in fine arts to the practice of garden design. Mary studied  and worked with many Pacific Northwest gardening legends, including Dan Hinkley, and Kevin Nikolay. The garden was operated as a retail nursery for many decades until 2018, at which point she transformed the gardens into a space for education, community gathering and a place of sanctuary.

In our increasingly busy and tech-focused world, creating together is a way to center and ground. The garden itself is a space of beauty and healing.  Come as you are—solo or with a group, experienced crafter or curious beginner. We hope you can join us as we find new ways of connecting to the place and the people around us!
