October Newsletter

I know Halloween has not passed yet, but fall has us heading into our studios to prepare for the winter market – the next big event at Cultus Bay Gardens.

This year the Winter Market will be held for just ONE WEEKEND

DECEMBER 2 & 3 from 9 am – 4 pm both days.

Please note this in your planners, as this is a big departure from our usual winter dates which has always included the Thanksgiving weekend as well.

I’m reserving this Thanksgiving weekend for family time, as there is some illness in our family and I want it be a mellow time.

I am excited to once again offer a great selection of artist work, baked goods, wreaths, and hot spiced cider that first weekend in December.

After a long 4 year wait, I finally was fortunate to host Allisa Allen, of Mycopigments, in a mushroom and lichen dying workshop. Her knowledge of mushrooms is incredible as well as knowing how to get incredible color from so many different kinds. Kaili Plummer-Slate ( on the right ) was her able assistant.

Lobster mushrooms dye lovely pinks.

Green-gilled wood lover mushroom.

This mushroom Allisa found outside the lathe house. It will make a dye so I have it frozen until I have time to get to that project.

This is the same mushroom photographed at night with a black light  showing how it glows! That was a surprise to the students, seeing how some mushrooms and lichens glow in black light.

I took a short walk through the garden when I returned home a few days ago to see what the fall foliage was doing.

I wanted to capture some of the great colors happening outside my door to share with you.

I’ve been in Seattle alot helping my daughter Leah paint a huge mural on a new building in Redmond.

Leah Nguyễn has learned how to operate this huge Genie lift machine with a long extending bucket so we can reach the wall 5 stories up in the air.

The mural is almost done and it’s been amazing to get to work on it, as well as see Leah’s vision coming to fruition. She has an impressive new skill set operating that green beast of a machine.

Kaili Plummer-Slate will have some of her lovely pine needle baskets at the winter market.

Jamie Connors will be offer some sweet embroidery at the winter market. Most work is on clothing, but she’s branching out this year with other items as well.

Erica Hanson will have her great aprons and tote bags ~ so well constructed!

Many more artist will be part of the market. You can count on quality work and a cheerful fun atmosphere.

November will be here and gone before we know it! We are looking forward to welcoming you to our always popular Winter Arts & Crafts Market so be sure to put it in your calendar since it’s only 2 days this year!!

Many thanks for all your support over the years!
