Early July Newsletter

Painting by Jonni Reed –  one of the artists at the Market – House with Puddles – 12″ x 16″

July is going to be a great month as 23 artists prepare to delight you with their paintings, ceramics, jewelery, clothing, woodwork, handmade knives, handspun yarn, glasswork, clothing, paper crafts, unique pillows, collage, body care products, tasty food, cloth lunch bags, & felted treasures all in a delightful garden setting with the hydrangeas in full glory.

We also have a new class on July 24Felted Gnomes – taught by educator and artist Natalia Robinson.

Natalia has taught felting for 12 years to both children and adults so this class is perfect for any beginner age 8+. You’ll leave with remainders from your kit plus a completed gnome! And pie of course in the garden while you craft. Contact me for discounts if bringing a family member.

Before I focus on some of the artists at the market, I have to share these photos of the delightful deck at Jonni & Dennis Reeds home where I enjoyed a margarita and even better conversation last night.

Jonni is one of those multi-talented women I know – interior designer, chef, gardener, mother & grandmother as well as a beautiful soul who helped me start Whidbey Island Nourishes.

I’m delighted she will be participating in our market for the first time ever this year.

Jonni planted an akebia in one corner, a honeysuckle on the opposite corner and a clematis and pototao vine on the front posts. It’s really magical to sit under the canopy of shade. A weed blower in the fall takes care of ridding the deck of the fallen leaves.

As you can see the roof of the deck provides shade and wonder looking at the patterns of the vines.

Ellen Gabrieli’s – IG @ellengabrielicearmics – ceramics would look right at home hanging off Jonni’s deck – or in most garden settings. Ellen is a ceramicist from Seattle who will also have buttons and pendants at the market. A good selections to entice you.

Shelli Markee -IG @shellimarkee –  also from Seattle, will have her delightful wire work jewelery which is like a whisper to wear and so lovely. New to our market as well, I’m so happy she agreed to come.

Local spinner and baker, Brittany Olsen-Boblitt  – IG @fiberandflame & @brittany.olsen.boblitt – will have her perfectly gorgeous handspn and hand dyed yarns for sale, along with glass work her husband Devin creates.

Lucas Rebrovic – IG @upcycleforges – will amaze you with his well crafted knives of many sizes and uses. Some with leather sheaths and others clearly intended for the kitchen. Also a first timer at our market.

Jessenia Eisenman – IG @heart.near.the.ground – will be at the same table as Lucas with her innovative beadwork and wood earrings as well as necklaces. She has crafted the wood parts of all this jewelery. Her work is really extra special.

Patti King – IG @pkingweaver – has a new offering! Unique and gorgeous pillows made from her vast textile collection. There is a facinating story behind the fabric in each pillow and Patti will share it’s history with you. Her work is impecable and I was jubilant when she decided she could do the market.

Karra Wise – IG @karra_wise – makes a wide variety of ceramics, from wall hangings & mugs to vases, bottles and more. Most mornings I drink my tea from one of her delightful mugs. I’m so glad she will be here for this market, as she hosts her own pop-ups at her darling In-the-Shed in Seattle located at her home.

Sheila Carbon has made 4 bird baths I’ll have for sale as well – always so popular when I had the nursery open. The birds are cut from semiprecious stone with colors reflecting the birds. I have a junco, chickadee, robin and brown creeper available. They are also listed on the market page if you want one and aren’t able to come to the market. The shopping page is on the Cultus Bay Gardens website. For ease here is the link to Sheila Carbons work.

The next newsletter will feature some of our other artists that will be joining the crew above on July 31 & August 1.

Both days we are open 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

A wonderful food truck & beverages will also be on hand to make it a perfect day!!

Hope you can join us! Please be vaccinated when you come as well as have a mask with you in case of crowding.

Best to all,

Mary Fisher
