Despite the snow we now have which really makes it feel like winter I think spring is around the corner and we will all be anxious to get out into our gardens and clean things up.
We are looking forward to a whole year ahead of some fun classes and workshops as well as a new summer market inspired by our holiday market we have each year.
Stay tuned for more on that in the months to come.

Brita Fisher – instructor
@brita.fisher
March 9 2019
12 pm – 3 pm
125.00 – includes all supplies
Lunch, tea/coffee & Mary’s pie

Brita’s floral classes – be they flowers or wreath making are always a fun and inspiring. Brita will provide the wonderful happy blooms we so long for after a grey winter ( bulbs and hellebores to name a couple )  and we’ll supplement with unusual greenery from the garden.

We will also discuss good plants to include in your garden for using for cut flowers and greenery.
Brita does custom flowers for weddings as well as some restaurants and businesses in Seattle on a weekly basis. Her sensitivity to the plant material and artistic eye is evident in her work.

The class begins with lunch as we share a delicious meal and move onto the arranging followed by my admittedly fabulous pie, tea and coffee.
We hope you are ready to come be inspired to create arrangements from your home garden, or even buy flowers at the grocery store and rearrange so they actually look attractive! It’s all possible with a bit of guidance from someone like Brita.

Leah’s second class in this technique is back by request!
Leah shares and makes clear the technique she has developed for working on any projects you have in mind be it writing, painting, gardening – basically anything you want to get some guidance on how to approach and what to do.

The class will be held indoors for warmth and comfort.
Leah will give a brief history of how she came to work this way and lead you clearly though the process she has developed.
It’s and inspiring and empowering way to approach your art or craft.
You’ll have time for individual attention and space to explore what you want to work on.
Leah can answer any questions about this class directly by emailing her at leah@planetpaintpeople.com
Here is a link to an article she wrote for the magazine Temporary on the work of previous artists using a similar method ~Hilma af Klint and Emma Kunz: Conscious collaboration with Spirit

April 6th
9 am – 2pm
$195.00
An amazing lunch included, beverages and dessert

Drawing on 100 years! of combined experience in the field and teaching at university as well many research projects Frank and Sievert are a font of information and fascinating stories of birds, ducks, habitats and numerous tidbits of information only many years of research and teaching can provide.

We will begin the morning setting up mist nets (a harmless way to catch birds). Sievert will explain  why and how they are used and you’ll get to see various birds up close before we release them.
A walk around the extensive pond and trail system on Sievert’s property will lead us to duck and geese nesting locations along with history on the habitat of the forest.
We’ll head back to the house for a tasty lunch in the expansive living dining room which looks out to the large house pond ( usually has geese nesting there ).
Frank has a stunning slide show of ducks and research work he’s been in charge of over the years.

You’ll be able to ask all kinds of questions and probably get some surprising answers from these two very experienced and interesting guys.

Leah among the cedars at Kobota Gardens

A recent trip to Seattle had me discovering the serenity of Kobota Gardens in South Seattle.
There are many magical places inside this well maintained free public garden. How lucky we are to have places like that where children can find secret hiding places and enjoy the wonder of a wide variety of trees and shrubs.

A number of ponds with various bridges of wood and stone and the lazy motion of carp swimming around are just some of the delights.

A rather Dr Suess looking cryptomeria near the red bride.

Brilliant red roots from clumping low growing bamboo reach into the stream.

A fun hide out from the big people ~ Pasha and Sabella can fit under these curiously pruned pines.

The beginning of the snowfall yesterday – these little trampoline-like spider webs caught the small hail stones so it was easy to see each wonderful construction as they held the precipitation.

I’m in process of changing my out-dated Cultus Bay Nursery website to Cultus Bay Gardens and will hopefully soon have a more direct way to register for classes.
Until that time email or call me if interested.
Thanks for your support – it’s such fun hosting classes in the former nursery.

Happy Winter Snowfall!
