Join us for a fun, creative two days sharing and exploring the magic of dyeing cloth in an indigo vat. The beauty and poetry of indigo blue evokes a wealth of imagery, and gives each participant the potential to develop a personal language.

Gather inspiration from the historic, ethnic, and contemporary indigo dyed textiles that Elin will bring from her own collection. Explore the extraordinary patterns that have been handed down for centuries within many diverse cultures.

Everything you need in order to dye a cotton shawl is included. Bring a t-shirt or another articles of clothing, socks, napkins, or any other item that is cotton, linen, silk, or rayon to dip into the vat. Silk, cotton, and linen scarves will be available for purchase for dyeing in the indigo vat. Bring yourself, lunch,  and wear clothes you don’t mind getting indigo dye on.

Wear clothes you don’t mind getting blue and bring a good fitting pair of gloves for the dipping.

 

Everything you need to dye, including an organic cotton shawl. You are welcome to bring  t-shirts or other articles of clothing to dip into the vat.  NO yardage or large tablecloths or sheets please.
Silk, cotton, and linen scarves will also be available for purchase to continue your dye experiments. Bring yourself, lunch, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting indigo dye on.

Biography of Elin Noble

 
Elin Noble is an internationally known textile artist and dyer. She graduated with a BFA in textiles from the University of Washington in Seattle. From 1992-1996 Elin was Lab Manager at PRO Chemical & Dye, a dye distributor in Fall River, Massachusetts.
 
She is author of the 1998 award winning book, Dyes & Paints: A Hands-On Guide to Coloring Fabric. She has appeared on PBS, and lectured and conducted workshops across North America, France, Denmark, The Netherlands, Hungary, Japan, and South Korea.
 
Elin has exhibited her cloth and quilts in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Hungary, South Korea, Denmark, and China.
 
Elin Noble lives in Langley and maintains a studio in Freeland, Washington.
