February Newsletter

A new year and time to start thinking about gardens, spring and fun classes to plan!

I always feel that seeing a double rainbow bodes well for the upcoming days.

I’m happy to say that one of our most popular classes will be coming up on March 24 – Bojagi – The Art of Korean Patchwork.

This photo of our illustrious teacher, Patti King, was taken by her talented niece & artist Heather Brincko

Maximum class size – 11

Minimum -9

Patti brought more wonderful fabrics back from her recent trip to Korea, so you’ll have a large selection of incredible fabrics to choose from.

The two examples above are from beginning students work in one of Patti’s classes. A small do-able project you can complete and find amazing relaxation in the process.

Elin Noble is scheduled to teach an Indigo Weekend class June 29 & 30.

I’ve not posted details but if interested save those dates as the class always fills up.

Winter is headed out with the arrival of much anticipated blooms of witch hazel, hellebores and snow drops.

Hellebores have spread all around my garden by industrious and hungry ants, yet I keep finding new hybrids to buy! They are my favorite flower, and have been since I started the nursery in 1986.

Nothing quite like a sweep of snowdrops and lucky for me my brother Sievert is obsessed with bulbs so I  feel like I’m in Holland when I walk on his property.

One of the newer willows available is Salix Mt Aso, which so far seems to grow more bush like and wider than tall. I recently sold some to Flying Bear  ( IG @flyingbearfarm ) – a delightful floral and gift shop in Langley with many treasures. Melissa Brown is the lovely owner with a great eye for special products as well as flowers.

I’m planning to have Allisa Allen back in the fall for a 2 day mushroom dying class – late September most likely. Last years was so popular we are going to add a day and do some mushroom & lichen hunting at night, with a black light.

Stay posted once we decide dates. This class will register though Allisa’s website. Once posted I’ll send a link.

Summer Market 2023 – Aditieh, Jura & Pasha with yummy drinks and cookies.

Kirstin Clauson of The Herbal Workshop

The Summer Arts and Crafts Market is July 27 & 28. I already have many great vendors, including Kirstin, in the photo above. Good chance the darling grandchildren will be selling cookies and drinks again as well!  Also some new vendors to look forward too, so I’m sure it will be another killer good  market.

Brita Fisher and Matt Dillon will be offering both a flower arranging class earlier in the day on Saturday July 27 followed by an outrageously good dinner by well known chef Matt Dillon – laid out along the garden for ultimate al fresco dining. Tickets for both of these events will be sold on Matt and Brita’s website, which I’ll link to once all the details are in.

As more classes get planned they will be mentioned in upcoming newsletters.

I took a bit of a winter break in January, so sent no newsletter, but I’m back with plans and ideas for enticing  spring and summer of activities!
